Old Tollgate

Jan is a lovely kind lady so helpful and caring to make sure your stay is enjoyable and the food pack was nice and the cottage is quirky but it’s 200 years old and that’s what we enjoyed about it also the bath is fantastic and everything you need is in the cottage

Had a wonderfull week at tolgate cottage the weather was brilliant .

the accomodation was first class,the welcome pack jan left for us was a great touch.a very quirky building with lots of characture..sadie our dog loved it to jan left a bag of treats for her and a ball wich she loved .hihly recomend the cottage and anglesea was fantastic

What a fantastic place, we loved it.

Arrived to find the cottage lovely and cosy with a wonderful welcome pack to greet us. I could really feel the history of the place with the buildings original purpose still obvious. Everything we needed , and more, was available with loads of useful information on what to do at hand. Jan is a welcoming host who was able to give us answers to any queries we had. The location is a fantastic base to explore all of Anglesey. After days at the beach it was great to have the choice of the wet room, for our dog, or the luxury of the big bath, for us. My wife, myself & our dog had an amazing time. We’ll be back again soon, highly recommended.

Cottage was cosy and welcoming, we enjoyed returning to it after days out with our dog.

Lots of thoughtful touches such as, the extensive welcome pack, dog treats and toiletries. The cottage smelled lovely and the finishing touches like cushions and throws made it like home from home. Although it was December and a relatively quiet period, the road noise was quite intrusive which is the only drawback.

Had a lovely time staying at the old Tollgate Jan was very welcoming and the property provided everything you needed for yourself and your furry friend.

The property was lovely and cosy on some wild October evenings. We'll be back next year!

Had a wonderful stay, cosey and warm was very surprised with the welcome pack treats for all of us on arrival including Tilly, did not expect that at all.

Jan is a lovely woman and full of information on places to visit .the stay for us was brilliant and we will be coming back Donna Rob and Tilly the dog

Jan was an amazing host.

The property was amazing quirky everything you need. Jan made sure we were warm enough when the temperatures dropped in the evening. Everything you could need was provided. A truely amazing lovely stay and central to get around and explore the island. One small downside is road noise, but it did not spoil Our stay.

The cottage was clean and well maintained.

The wet room was great and the bathroom upstairs was lovely. The enclosed garden was a safe place for our dog. The host was welcoming and helpful. We were greeted with a generous welcome pack. We found the road very noisy and we had not really anticipated that. It did disturb us at night and that, together with the fact that the only parking is in a nearby lay-by, is something to be aware of when considering booking the cottage.

Beautiful property oozing with character, beautiful.

Within easy driving distance of many of the beautiful beaches on the Angelsey coast. The host, Jan, was super welcoming and helpful.

Jan the owner made sure everything was ok for us and gave some good advice on places to visit etc, The Toll house is very cosy and homely and has everything you need for your stay.

We had a fabulous break at Old Tollgate.

The cottage is compact but perfect for two people and a dog. Jan (the owner) was amazing. She popped over when we first arrived and made sure we had everything we needed. She also left the most amazing welcome basket full of treats for us and our furry friend. There's a great power shower in the wet room and if you want a bit of luxury, there's a wonderful free standing bath up on the first floor. The fairy-lit garden is also a lovely place to sit in the evening and have a few drinks. The garden is also perfect for a dog as it's fully enclosed and safe. The cottage is located with easy access the best of Anglesey's beaches, walks and days out. We had a great time and would highly recommend this quirky little cottage for your stay in Anglesey.

Tollgate cottage was impeccable, smelt gorgeous. Able to visit the whole island easily from there. We both had such a loverly weeks holiday there and can't wait to book another break away. Thankyou so much for a loverly time x

We absolutely loved staying here, Very cosy,very quirky, Everything needed there for a enjoyable stay, Jan the owner is a absolutely lovely person always there at the end of the phone if needed, Jan left us an amazing welcome pack which was so good too, Very much appreciated, The old Toll cottage is ideally located for visiting everywhere on the beautiful island of Anglesey, Jan leaves books to help find the great places to visit and great walks, Also Jan helps if you want any advice, Amazing stay didn't want to leave though.

Another relaxed stay in this fantastic,quirky place.

A great place to access all of angelsey and Holyhead. Lovely host,Jan, who left us a great welcome pack again. This place has everything you need for your stay.

As two 80+year olds we would have appreciated the quirkiness more had we been 20 years younger,having said that ,all that was mentioned in the information pre holiday was correct and the owner Jan .

excelled with her wecome pack and indeed welcome greeting and ensuring that all was to our liking,Jan is very friendly and knowledgeable of the area,.a good host.

A unique and magical property.

The Old Tollgate is the perfect location for exploring all the Isle of Anglesey offers, with everything within easy reach. Jan was a wonderful host, with the excellent welcome pack of essentials and treats being the icing on the cake. I took full advantage of the exceptional May weather to give my walking boots a thorough workout, although you’d be just at home here if all you wanted to do was chill out and relax for a few days. It really is a property for all seasons, and I wouldn’t hesitate to book it again!

We had a lovely long weekend break over the Easter holidays.

The Tollgate was so clean and comfortable. Jan had thought of everything! We had a wonderful welcome basket left for us. With Easter eggs, Welsh cakes, shortbread, and a treat bag for our dog Basil. Also milk, eggs and butter in the fridge. We couldn’t have asked for more. We got to met the lovely Jan who was very friendly and helpful. We’re regular’s to Anglesey and found the tollgate to be in a great area, within reach to many places we love to visit. I’m sure we’ll be back again. Thank you Jan.

We had a fantastic stay at The Old Tollgate, a charming and beautifully maintained property that was spotlessly clean and has an amazing bathroom.

The Old Tollgate is a good central location for visiting all the sites of Anglesey. Jan greeted us warmly and provided great local tips that helped us plan our activities. The thoughtful welcome bag of Welsh cakes, bara brith and other treats were a lovely touch that we enjoyed in front of the fire. Highly recommended!

Great stay at this charming quirky cottage.

Very clean and well equipped lovely enclosed garden So safe for the dog. There is some traffic noise by did not deter from a fantastic cottage, Jan the owner was lovely with a nice welcome and fresh flowers in the cottage.

An amazing place to stay.

The owner left a lovely welcome pack for us and the dog too. Very clean and well supplied with everything you need for a stay. Compact but perfectly set out and enough space for us. Impeccable bathroom, shower room and kitchen: the added space of the conservatory was great,it had light for the whole day. A great size garden for the dog to be able to wander around. It would also be ideal in the summer months to just sit outside. Ideal for seeing all of Anglesey and Holyhead,a short drive from many amazing beaches. Definitely a place to return to.

Amazing quirky little cottage we absolutely loved our stay as did our little dog , was very cosy and peaceful , ideally located for anyone wishing or needing to avoid fireworks as we heard only 1 which was excellent as our dog is terrified !

Amazing open coal fire . Cannot forget to mention the amazing roll top bath ! Would definitely want to stay again and would recommend. Jan is a lovely lady who gave us and dolly (our dog) the most amazing welcome hamper which was greatly appreciated especially as we were a last minute booking !

Excellent accomodation, absolutely everything catered for.

Jan made us feel especially welcome, even went to the trouble of calling round to let us know the Northern Lights were on display. I highly recommend anyone staying here.

Old Tollgate was a lovely place to stay, an interesting property and ideal for exploring Anglesey.

We had a fabulous break in this wonderful quirky property, it had everything we needed.

The cottage has a well equipped kitchen, comfortable bed, relaxing lounge and conservatory, dining area, two bathrooms, and some great outside space. The welcome pack was the best we’ve had to date. Jan is a great host. Although as mentioned the property is close to the road but we had no issues with this and the parking in the lay-by is very close and convenient.

Perfect Holiday cottage there was however some road noise at peak periods (mostly HGV,s) The directions to find the cottage were rubbish and could have been much easier to just follow the A5 or A55 then A5.

the house code directs you to a lane at the back of the Tollgate which can not be seen. The owner (Jan) was very helpful and goodies great

Lovely quaint and unusual property.

I’d definitely recommend a stay here if you want a central base to explore Anglesey and north wales. The owner is lovely and extremely helpful. The cottage is clean and well maintained. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

We had a fantastic time the cottage was excellent.

It is definitely one of the most comfortable and interesting cottages we have stayed in.Jan had left us a lovely welcome pack for when we arrived..Milk /eggs/ butter etc and also some goodies for us and our dog.Jan was very knowledgeable of the island which was very helpful when planning our days out. The garden was fully enclosed which made it safe for our dog. As others have mentioned about the parking there was no worries as the lay-by very close to the property was very adequate.

What a wonderful cottage!

It had everything you could need and the owner was very friendly and left a beautiful welcome pack for us and our dogs including milk, eggs, butter and Easter eggs! Very clean and well maintained and in a great position to see all of Anglesey . We have had a wonderful stay and hope to be back.

The cottage was better than we expected, home from home.

The welcome pack plus butter,eggs and milk was extremely thoughtful..Our dog loved his treats specially his ball.. The cottage as everything you need ,just remember to look in the table drawer for your cutlery

Immaculately clean and well presented and a lovely welcome pack upon arrival.

Cottage was warm and comfy.

It was spotlessly clean. The owner left a welcome pack that was lovely. We were worried about the parking but we were always able to park. The cottage was central to everything. Jan the owner was great, had lots of recommendations of places to visit. We had a problem with the heating while there but it was fixed quickly. Amazing property.

e.several beaches and restaurants,jan is a lovely host and made sure that you was okay and told us many places off interest which we visited,on arrival,she left us a lovely goodie bag with milk, eggs, butter, dog treats human biscuits. Hot chocolate tea bags which was a very nice touch thanks again jan we will be coming back next time we holiday on this beautiful island.

Aw we had such a lovely stay at the Tollgate Cottage.

...a stay which went over way to quickly. I don't think there is anything that Jan hasn't thought off to make a stay comfortable. The Tollgate is well placed for seeing all the sites we cycled, walked South Stack on a very blustery day and visited the Church in the Sea to name but a few of the things. My only disappointment was the weather didn't really justify putting the lovely open fire on.....but maybe next time.

The old toll house has been renovated in remarkably unique and yet practical way .

It has every facility you could want and is comfortable and homely. It is superbly maintained and cleaned. I would recommend it to anyone.

Our week away in the beautiful Old Tollgate was wonderful the weather was dreadful but the cottage or ‘Fairy House’ as I called it was unbelievable.

Jan the owner was amazing a truly lovely lady who was a pleasure to meet. The ‘welcome pack’ was such a great surprise & treats too for Skye our retriever was really appreciated too.

We had a lovely week at The Old Tollgate.

Its certainly unique and very quirky. All the rooms are cosy and the bed very comfortable, we slept like logs!! The welcome pack left by the lovely Jan was an added bonus and very much enjoyed, definitely good value for money and would highly recommend. We wouldn't hesitate to stay again on our next visit to Anglesey.

This was our second stay, 2 adults & Luca the Labrador, at Old Tollgate and was, yet again, fantastic!

Jan is lovely & welcoming, the property is only small but has everything you need. It comes with a great history having been one of a series of toll collection houses on the A5 and has been updated very thoughtfully. It's location gives the opportunity to explore the whole of the beautiful Isle of Anglesey with it's superb beaches and ancient historical sites. Highly recommended for a couple & their best friend!

We really enjoyed our stay at The Old Tollgate, so relaxing and much needed break.

The open fire made it extremely cosy and added to the atmosphere. The owner, Jan, left us a lovely Xmas Hamper to enjoy. We will definitely stay again in the near future and would highly recommend.

We had such an amazing time at this quirky accommodation!

Jan the owner could not do enough for us and made us feel welcome as soon as we arrived with the fire set ready to light, the lovely welcome pack including treats for the fur ball. The external area was perfect for our dog and secure. The location is in the perfect position to visit all the beauty of the island as it is in the A5. We had no issues with the noise of the traffic in my opinion if you make the most of what the island has to offer, light the fire once your head hits the pillow in the superbly comfortable bed you will wake up refreshed ready for whatever lies ahead. Thanks for making us so welcome Jan we will definitely return to see you..

Delightful :) This cottage is cute, quaint and very warm and comfortable - we had ample space for our travel cot in the bedroom and plenty of living space for the two of us, our toddler and two small dogs (the conservatory is such a bonus after beach walks and we were able to wash and dry the dogs in the downstairs wet room!

). Although I have dogs myself I am always wary of ‘dog friendly’ accommodation, but there was no such need in this case, as the whole cottage was spotless and smelled beautiful! The only downside was that I didn’t want to get out of that amazing bath!! The location was ideal to explore all of the island and very close to Aberffraw, Newborough and Rhosneigr for lovely coastal walks. The property being a Toll house (the clue is in the name!) and considering the location being a main road, there was relatively little disturbance from traffic noise, and we all slept well each night! :) Jan is the most welcoming and helpful host - our welcome pack and provisions were a lovely touch, thank you so much :)) All in all a perfect setting for our little winter holiday, enabling us to introduce our Son to everything that Wales has to offer - if you haven’t visited Nirth Wales before, please consider a day in the the exquisite Heritage Railway (dogs welcome there too!) We would definitely recommend 100% x

Excellent location to visit the island, had some great walks with our dog Milo.

Been renovated to a high standard, very comfortable and cosy. Had the log fire lit most nights. As the weather was not great as expected! Met Jan the owner who was very welcoming who kindly borrowed us a dog walking book with a dog friendly pub at the end of the walk. The only 1 negative I can say is the road noise whilst in bed. Maybe look into having triple glazed windows, even if they were just in the bedroom. Thanks again.

Set in beautiful countryside, though traffic noise might be a problem for some.

Sleeping and eating in a compact but historical building - but those over 5ft 10in must be careful! Ideal base for visiting all parts of the island. Extremely pleasant, helpful and informative owner.

There was no storage for our bikes the garden was not secure for our pets the owner just turned up on the grounds there was no clothes storage the entrance to the property was over soil no mop and bucket to clean with maybe it would be OK for a one night stay no longer and don't take alot of stuff second disappointing stay with sakes

The Toll Gate is a unique cottage, which has been lovingly restored to the 21st century.

It has all the amenities that you need for your holiday. Although it is small, it is full of character with quaint features and very cosy. It’s central location is handy for visiting all the island, we particularly loved our walks on Aberffraw beach with our two Cockapoo’s. Congratulations to Jan for being a great hostess and for providing information about the island and welcoming us. We had a great week, the weather was kind to us as well.

Everything you need for a relaxing break. The cottage is quirky, cosy and historically interesting, but the real gem is Jan, the owner, who extended a warm welcome and a starter pack to kick-start our holiday. The cottage is clean and light and the upstairs bathroom certainly has the “wow” factor. Thank you again Jan, as without you we would not have found all the lovely places our maps did not show. We hope to visit again and can certainly recommend your beautiful cottage.

Beautiful cottage, central location, less than 30 minutes drive to almost anywhere on the island, the cottage had everything we could have wished for, including a lovely enclosed rear garden, a conservatory, heating in all rooms (which we never needed to use) a wet-room with shower, stunning bathroom, and the most wonderful friendly hostess Jan, who gave us some invaluable information on places to visit and eating-out.

Outstanding cleanliness throughout, and all possible kitchen utensils provided. Everyone we met was so friendly, and the island (as well as The Old Toll House) is a perfect place for those with dogs.

Lovely cottage ,the bath was beaut after a day walking to soak your aching bones.

It was immaculate cleanest home I've ever stayed in, local to all areas 20 mins your at the beach,Jan (the lady who owns it)is happy to help with local knowledge..traffic is bad at certain points of the day but your out and about so you miss the worst off it..garden is closed in so great for your dog we have a big dog and he still had no hopes off escaping. Highly recommended this cottage.(tollhouse).

A tastefully restored cottage with a high standard of cleanliness and comfort.

Ideal location for exploring the island with a very friendly owner and neighbours. Lots of history to the building and beautiful dog friendly beaches just a short cycle ride away.

The cottage is small as advertised but comfortable for two, very tidy.

wet room bath room and kitchen really nice. Two comfy chairs in the lounge would work better .the sette is a bit small. overall it's very tastefully done good quality fittings. Well situated for exploring so I say five star

The cottage is beautiful and wonderfully cared for.

The owner is absolutely lovely and gave us a very warm welcome, including treats waiting for us in the kitchen. It's in a great position to visit any part of the island easily.

This isa super little cottage very high spek , Jan the owner was brilliant so helpful nothing too much trouble.

Only down side would be road noise but not a problem through the night and as we were out and about during the day it didn’t bother us would highly recommend. ,

The cottage is a very well decorated beautiful place to stay, it is very homely, from the welcoming pack that was left and even our dog got a treat left as well, to the eggs, butter and milk that was left in the fridge for us which was very appreciated.

Our only negative unfortunately was the seating ( the settee ) it was far too low for me as I am disabled with arthritis and found it hard to get in and out of it. And that is our only negative comment. Hopefully we will be back next year as there is still plenty of places to explore. Thank you Tollgate for a fantastic holiday break.

We really enjoyed the central location. The property is full of character, warm and cosy with plenty of hot water, which we made good use of filling the huge bath tub ti relax in after a day out walking.
