The Old Smithy Cottage

We recently spent a few days at this wonderful holiday accommodation and could not have been more pleased with our stay.

It was clean and comfortable. The absolute highlight, however, was the view. Waking up to the stunning scenery every morning made the entire trip unforgettable—it was the perfect backdrop for morning coffee and relaxing evenings alike.

The property lived up to our expectations and exceeded it, lovely surprise to find a comprehensive welcome pack, essentials such as bread & milk, but also fruit, biscuits, sweets, toiletries etc, so generous.

We didn't get to meet our hosts apart from a wave through the window. The cottage was clean and comfortable and the location meant that it was easy to get to places we wanted to visit. Many thanks to our lovely hosts.

A lovely stone cottage with everything you need to enjoy your stay.

Comfortable and well equipped. Barry was very friendly and helpful. This was an ideal base to explore this part of Wales and to travel on the various steam train excursions from Porthmadog.

Felt at home the minute we walked in.

Had another lovely relaxing holiday.

Cosy and comfortable. Love the conservatory with the view and everything else included in the property including the use of sky TV. Can't hear the noise from the road when in bed at night, and not disturbed by slight noise in the living room.

Our third visit to the Old Smithy and it never fails to disappoint.

Its a warm, comfortable cottage, ideal for visiting Snowdonia and the surrounding area. Hazel and Barry are welcoming hosts and the arrival hamper is a bonus with the essentials all in place, including a crusty loaf and some Welsh butter: so thoughtful after a long journey. After a day in the beautiful snowy mountains, you can return to a cosy, warm holiday home and relax. We will definitely be returning again and thoroughly recommend Old Smithy Cottage.

Barry and Hazel made us feel welcome.

The accommodation was perfect for us. We were walking the coast path. It was a comfortable place to go back to and the facilities were perfect for our requirements.

Lovely cottage but I think the listing should make more clear you are ON a main road.

Other points that could be improved; The fridge... change the door round so it opens the other way please! I know you are short of space, this would make a massive difference. The lounge smells funny, kind of musty/ like old dog or pet or smoking? The rest of the cottage does not, obviously we could not open the windows in the lounge due to noise (which tbf when doors were closed, the road did not bother but it did in the conservatory). The shower screen has a gap at the bottom and leeks water, no matter how we adjusted or stood in the shower. Towels... bath sheets are standard, these were very small. The mirror on the right to guide from the drive is misty and hard to use and the one on the left - bushes need trimming back to allow better vision. You should not come to the property via the back gate, for privacy reasons. We felt had to keep curtains and Internal back door closed when would have preferred open, in case you could see in/would surprise us. You left some lovely touches thank you, the dressing gowns, bits of food etc, appreciated. Note the expiry dates on the jams were 2024. We got used to these things and managed, particularly as our holiday was based around walking and going out, for others it may not, but for these reasons would not return or recommend.

The Owners Hazel and Barry provided a very special welcome pack of 2 bottles of wine, and a big variety of goodies for Us to enjoy, Yum Yummy! They were very friendly, helpful and pleasant. A very comfortable very clean cottage set in a beautiful part of Wales.

The welcome pack was ideal to get our holiday off to a great start. Sitting in an evening in the conservatory looking out over fields towards the hills in the background was so relaxing. We highly would recommend this cottage in an amazing part of Wales.

We had a fabulous week at the Old Smithy.

Barry & Hazel were the perfect hosts, there if we needed them, but not intrusive. The cottage is definitely a bit of a gem. The south facing conservatory is fantastic and we spent most of the time in the cottage in there. The cottage is beside a busy road, but triple glazing shields you from the noise. The facilities are spot on and the cottage location is brilliant for exploring North Wales. We are booking a return stay here, definitely.

Our second stay at this cosy comfortable cottage.

Everything you need for a holiday in this beautiful part of Wales. Very welcoming, warm and inviting and a thoughtful welcome basket too. In a great location and although on the main road, the triple glazing works a treat and there are road mirrors to aid your access to and from the driveway. We would thoroughly recommend this cottage and will return again and laze in the conservatory enjoying the lovely view.

We didn't meet the owners but there was no need, all information we needed was supplied.

Kitchen was well equipped as was the whole cottage with modern fixtures and fittings. In fact we couldn't fault it. We chose to park on the grass verge rather than use the yard to park as we were advised we could do. We chose to spend most of our time locally but being close to a major road we could have easily traveled further afield. Due to the thick walls and glazing, we hardly noticed the traffic though.

We had a really great time at the cottage, it's a wonderful place is a very nice location.

The space is perfect, well taken care of, clean and comfortable. We had coffee in the conservatory every morning, which was a treat. Would love to go back!

What a lovely well maintained and very well equipped cottage with a great view from the cosy conservatory where we spent most of our time when at the property. The owners have thought of everything and are a delightful couple, it was a pleasure to meet them. Hazel has added the 'little extras' that make all the difference. Tricky exiting the property (on a blind bend 60mph road but there is a mirror sited over the road to see oncoming traffic) but we were aware of this when booking. Could maybe a do with another mirror to see traffic coming uphill when exiting left. Ideally located for getting around the area with so many great places to visit only a short drive away. Overall, a very relaxing and comfortable stay at this property and we'll be sure to return.

Amazing little place.

We went over Christmas to get away from all the hustle and bustle and to relax and recharge, and thats what we did. There was everything we needed, it was clean, comfortable and so cosy, scenery is amazing. We loved it that much we have booked again for the summer to do more getting out and about..look forward to it. PERFECT getaway and stunning. Thank you ❤️❤️

Staying at The Old Smithy Cottage for the past few days has been welcoming, relaxing and the perfect escape.

Walks are on the doorstep and Porthmadog is a short drive away when you need supplies. There is also plenty to see in the surrounding area. The cottage itself has everything you need and the welcome basket is a lovely added touch. Hazel & Barry have gone out of their way to provide an ideal getaway.

We like to take our own garden produce with us but found the kitchen laking a few untensils, a smaller frying pan,extra saucepan, there were no basins and 2 more side plates handy.

Other than that we were very pleased.

Perfect location

The cottage is a beautiful old slate building but the interior has been modernised in a very tasteful way.

The furnishings are very comfortable and there is WiFi and Sky TV. The conservatory looks out across countryside and we spotted lots of birds and butterflies during our stay. The weather was unusually hot for September and we were grateful to be able to sit out in the garden under the shade of the trees. There is only one downside to the property and that is the very busy road, everything else was perfect.

Fabulous little cottage, just perfect for a couple.

Wonderful views from the conservatory and spotlessly clean and comfortable. Beautiful surroundings and so many places nearby to visit and enjoy. Very friendly owners and delightful welcome pack. We look forward to returning very soon.

Clean and comfortable cottage.

The conservatory looks out over the garden onto lovely marsh land and a wood, it's a great spot to enjoy the view and read. The road noise is noticeable in the living area but not in the bedroom. The triple glassing does make a big difference. The location is great for exploring the Rhinogs, Moelwyns, Portmeirion, the coastal path. You can even do a couple of walks directly from the house. We'd stay again.

The attention to detail was great and the accommodation had everything we needed. The cottage was beautifully furnished and very clean. You can tell a lot of thought and effort has been put in by the hosts and the welcome box of goodies, milk, butter etc was wonderful. I couldn’t recommend this place enough! Absolutely beautiful cottage, fantastically welcoming, beautiful view, comfortable, spotless amazing spot - the road is a bit tricky, but just needs awareness when its busy.

If I had to be super picky, the bed is very hard! But thats literally a tiny thing and entirely personal. On arrival, there is a nice welcoming note, some snacks, bread, milk, butter which is always appreciated - 100% will be recommending this to friends.

Fantastic cottage , so clean and tidy ,with several extras that just made it so nice .

Love the conservatory and the birds in the garden ... The road is close by and takes a bit of getting used to but we managed with it ok and it is handy for getting about on . So much to see and do ,we will have to come back !!! X

Situated in a beautiful part of Snowdonia, this is a little gem of a cottage, comfortable, well equipped and with great views.

It has everything you need and more, with a great welcome basket that contains treats and those essentials that allows you to settle in before searching for a local shop. The owners are welcoming and helpful but not intrusive. We would certainly recommend it and will hopefully return very soon.

The house was great but oh dear, getting into and out of the driveway was so dangerous.

We had a near miss due to lack of clear view to one side and the road being so narrow but very very busy

I was made to feel very welcome in this lovely property .

There were some nice finishing touches such as a welcome hamper ,bread and milk egg waiting for me. Hazel and Barry were very sweet and obviouly wanted me to feel at home. The traffic noise is not a problem as it softens down in the evening and can't be heard in the bedroom at all. Wales was wet when I stayed ; it was nice to sit in the conservatory listening to the rain and great to have the smart television and entertainment package. I will definitely be returning.

The Old Smithy Cottage was beautiful, we had a lovely break here - home from home, everything one needs for a self catering break And more.

Added little touches of goody basket of treats to dressing gowns to shampoos. Scenery from the conservatory relaxing, albeit a little cold at this time of year.

We really enjoyed our stay at 'The Old Smithy'.

Perfect location for walks (National park within walking distance), site seeing and eating out (pub within walking distance). We visited a few places (Porthmadog, Criccieth, Ffestiniog and Pwllheli). The accommodation had everything we needed, it was lovely and quiet even though the road is in front of the property. The bed was comfy and the views were lovely. It was a lovely cosy retreat. It was a little dicey leaving the property due to the blind bends and fast traffic but there is a mirror opposite to help. I would definitely recommend to friends and family. Huge thank you to the owners, you keep the place so clean, tidy and beautifully furnished.

Hazel and Barry were there to welcome us to The Old Smithy Cottage.

There was a welcome box in the hallway which was a lovely surprise. The cottage was tastefully furnished, warm and comfortable and they had provided everything we could have needed. The cottage is situated nearby all the local attractions such as slate and copper mines, mountains, forest walks, waterfalls and steam railways. The scenery is stunning. It is also not far from the coast, and there are a range of cafe's and restaurants of all types nearby, as well as pubs with open log fires and lovely food on offer. We would like to thank Hazel and Barry for making our stay so pleasurable.

Very well maintained, comfortable and clean cottage that had everything you could think of (including a delightful welcome pack of essentials i.

e. milk, bread, tea etc, and dressing gowns and slippers). Parking wasn't an issue, there is enough space to do a '3 point turn' inside the gates, so no need to back in (as someone else had suggested), unless you have a huge vehicle.

The Old Smithy Cottage is beautiful.

Perfect for 2 people who want some time away to relax and recuperate. The cottage was immaculately clean on arrival and has all of the necessary facilities required for an enjoyable stay. A thoughtful welcome hamper left was lovely to find and everything is of a high standard. A lovely pub for drinks or a meal is only a 2 minute walk up the road and the property itself has a private garden and patio area. The cottage is on a busy, main road; the only issue being pulling on and off the drive - reversing in is the better option and there is a mirror on the opposite side of the road to assist seeing oncoming traffic. Highly recommended place to stay.

Absolutely fabulous cottage.

Spotlessly clean, beautifully furnished, we felt really at home. Loved the conservatory and the view from it was amazing. My husband loved the tv and sky package. Lots to explore in the area, not far from Port Meirion which is why we booked this cottage. Lovely day out there. Would definitely book again.

A lovely cosy , clean, comfortable and well equiped cottage in a great location for touring North Wales.

A real home from home.We loved sitting in the Conservatory which had wonderful views. The walks through the nearby woods , around the lakes and up to the Railway is a must. The only one downside is the very busy road the cottage is on with large lorries as well as cars wizzing by at speed. You need to be very cautious when getting your car out of the driveway.It is also quite noisy when sitting in the garden. The traffic noise inside however is ok due to thick walls and triple glazing to the front windows. The busy road, unfortunately, will stop us from booking again.

A beautiful home with a lovely view.

The home was very clean and presented well. Pulling out onto the road might be difficult as it gets very busy. However, this didn't really affect us too much. Would stay again.

Lovely stay at The Old Smithy cottage.

The cottage was immaculate and was very beautiful designed throughout. Bonus was the conservatory overlooking the view. Spend most of our time in here. Would have loved a table in here so we could have had our meals overlooking the beautiful view. There are walks on your doorstep which we enjoyed. Traffic is busy and you do here the road on your first day but you soon become accustom to it and you don’t notice it there and just switch off. Was tricky at times to come out of the property as the cars go fast down the road both ways and don’t slow down. But you get use to it during your stay. Overall a wonderful experience and enjoyed staying somewhere different as we love North Wales and have traveled to most places.

This gorgeous cottage is in a perfect location for exploring North Wales.

It is on a main road but it is easy enough to turn left and use a lay by to turn around to go back the other way. We had no trouble doing this. The welcome pack was a lovely gesture as was the dressing gowns and blankets to snuggle up on the sofa. The cottage has everything we needed and the conservatory is a beautiful place to have breakfast in. A nice restaurant is within walking distance called The Oakley Arms and there is a shop and a fish & chip shop a short drive away

The Old Smithy Cottage proved an excellent base for walking in the area, with multiple great walks right from the front door.

The large TV with Sky and excellent broadband (60 MB upload) were much appreciated for the winter evenings. The cottage is nicely furnished throughout, with no issues. Two sets of double glazing per window meant no road noise, but exiting the parking area onto the busy road really requires someone out on the road to give direction, as the view to both directions of traffic is obscured until you have pulled out on to the (very fast) road; parking on the grass verge adjacent is much the safer option. The kitchen is a bit small, and fridge in the entrance lobby is a bit inconvenient, but these are minor niggles in what is a well-presented and welcoming cottage.

A lovely peaceful stay.

Am glad there was a warning about the road noise due to being on the main road but pleased to say it was not an issue due to the secondary glazing. Kitchen was a bit small but serviceable for the few days we stayed. Loved the welcome pack with the fresh bread and butter amongst the other things left for us. The extra touches - dressing gowns and slippers, toiletries and the comfortable furnishings were amazing. Loved the additional space in the conservatory, you really get a lot for your money here! Thank you!

What an absolute treasure, the cottage was exactly what was advertised and more.

It was immaculate, clean, welcoming there were some wonderful thoughtful touches, from a welcome basket, to dressing gowns, DVDs, the kitchen was well equipped, the towels and bed linen are of a high quality. Would I stay there again most certainly.

Cottage was well furnished and to a high standard.

The addition of the welcome pack was very thoughtful. The kitchen was well stocked but rather cramped which was very limiting. The fridge is in the porch, it would be easier to access if round other way. No cleaning products were supplied but I had taken my own in case. The step down into the conservatory could cause problems for someone with poor mobility as could the steps going into the cottage, I found it very difficult getting in and out of the bath to access the shower as there was no grab rail. The conservatory was very pleasant with wonderful views The cottage is situated on an extremely busy road with traffic going at high speeds so the noise and access can be very annoying. It also does not feel safe walking along road as quite narrow and no footpath in places The owners have put a lot of thought and effort into the property and it is a shame that the road is a major problem. For that reason we would not return

Spacious well equipped cottage.

One of the best we’ve ever stayed in. The conservatory is a great spot to enjoy the views. The owners, Hazel and Barry, are friendly and helpful. The cottage is close to a busy road, but don’t let that put you off staying at this little gem of a place!

We thourghly enjoyed our stay at The Old Smithy cottage and would certainly recommend staying there as the owners were very accomodating when needed,the cottage was very comfortable and cosy,but the exit from it,as well documented,is not ideal,but did not concern us too much as we parked on adjacent grass verge.

Well worth the stay.

We had a very pleasant stay at the cottage.

The conservatory is comfortable and has a nice view across the valley, we spent a lot of time sitiing there. The only problem is the very restricted visibility for exit to the main road, whilst there is a mirror showing traffic coming from the right the view from the left is also very poor and the traffic is fast. The safe option for turning right is to turn left initially and then use a layby just down the road to reverse direction. Would we book again? Yes.

The owners were friendly & made us feel welcome.

Cottage was excellent. The only negative was the closeness to the busy road.

A beautiful little cottage, and a real ' home from home'.

Really comfortable stay and not like a ' holiday let' at all. The only down side was that it is situated right alongside a busy road , which did mean there was traffic noise, and access to the parking had to.be taken with caution .

The welcome basket and dressing gowns were a lovely addition. Perfectly placed for exploring Snowdonia. The garden and conservatory have lovely views.

I would like to suggest that you make it clearer that the parking area to the road can be a bit tricky, due to its location and the type of road you are pulling out onto, but its OK if approached with care.

The cottage was lovely, very private and pleasant and spotlessly clean.

It was very well equipped with kitchen utensils, washing liquid, tea towels, kitchen roll, coffee and tea supplied. There was a very nice welcome pack including biscuits, chocolates and fruit, everything you need for a weeks stay. The furnishings were lovely, 2 large chesterfield sofas which looked new, TV with Sky my husband enjoyed watching the football on it. Bed was clean and comfortable, The sun room was very pleasant, over looking the fields and mountains, I sat in it quite a bit. Bathroom was very adequate with shampoo and conditioner supplied, you dont need to take anything with you. We ate in the Oakley Arms hotel one night, just 200 yards walk and the Grapes hotel which was about a mile drive, both excellent and very friendly. The only downside was the very busy road its set on, you have to take great care driving out.

Cottage was perfect for our needs and was well described.
