    “We had a wonderful stay at Y Dderwen in Bontuchel near Ruthin.”

    The accommodation was really lovely and felt warm, comfortable and well cared for, even with snowy and icy conditions during our visit. Despite the winter weather outside, it was cosy and welcoming inside and made a perfect place to relax. The extra touches from the host made the stay feel very personal and thoughtful. There was lots of useful local information provided and we especially appreciated the details about nearby walking routes. It was great to be able to get out and enjoy the ...

The setting is peaceful and scenic and the accommodation is an excellent base for exploring the area. We would happily recommend Y Dderwen to anyone looking for a comfortable and well looked after place to stay and would love to return in the future.

The hilltop town of Ruthin lies to the north of Llangollen via the breathtaking Horseshoe Pass. The town is picturesque with attractive half-timbered buildings, mainly clustered around St Peter’s Square. There are many interesting shops and buildings, whilst the Nant Clwyd House (the oldest timber frame in Wales), Ruthin Gaol and Ruthin Craft Centre, which houses work by internationally recognised artists and craftspeople, are also worth a visit. Beautiful countryside is on Ruthin’s doorstep with Lake Brenig, Moel Famau Country Park and Clocaenog Forest close by.
