Great place for a short break in beautiful surroundings.

On the edge of town with a great NW vista. We were there during a heatwave and could get a breeze running through the house with both doors open, though a fan would have helped. The door locks took some mastering.

We had a short stay and really liked the property, easy to access attractions and hiking areas, cozy and fully equipped.

There was all we needed for our stay and it was even decorated for Christmas ( as we stayed between Christmas and New Year) which was very nice and thoughtful. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely return, as there is so much to visit around the area.

Great stay 2nd time there

Gorwel from the pictures and listing description looked like a perfect setting from where you can venture across beautiful North Wales and communication with the owner before our stay was good.

However what transpired was completely different. There was a laundry basket (the large ones) full of dirty laundry which smelt musky and damp. Bed was not made. No linen or towels ready for us although owner said it would be. The cupboard with cleaning bits in did have towels which reeked of musky dampness and urine. There was fur, food and dirt on the floors. Stains on all four pillows on the bed which we swapped with ones in the cupboard. Mould in the fridge and freezer. The oven was disgusting, we bought new oven trays which we took home and did not even attempt to clean the oven. The shower floods because it was clogged up with hair which we unclogged ourselves after buying appliances suitable for this. Sanitary items in the bin in the toilet which we did not touch. Gate hard to open to collect keys. The listing is also incorrect there is no Sky and no PS2. There is Freesat and also X Box with a DVD player. Owner admitted to not booking the cleaner and then someone put a bin liner outside of the house with one toilet roll and a bed sheet, the bin liner reeked of cigarettes so we left this in the cupboard. Owner then wanted someone to come in (while our personal items were now unpacked and we had deep cleaned which he knew) and we declined which the owner used against us when we raised a complaint with Sykes as he said he tried to resolve the situation. I was not going to have someone who we did not know and had left a cigarette smelling bag to go and clean around our personal possessions. I am relieved we stuck by that decision. The only good thing was that we had a lovely time exploring Snowdonia and managed to spend the whole half day cleaning which we then were satisfied with our cleaning ability. I have recommended the owner to revise the listing and have a good deep clean of the property before anyone else stays. The owner did not respond or apologise but Sykes did resolve our complaint.

The cottage was very warm and welcoming, we loved the decor and the comfort offered as well as the lovely homely touches.

Our dog loved the enclosed garden, all in all we had a brilliant time.

We enjoyed a weeks stay at Gorwel in July, the Bungalow had everything we needed for a very comfortable stay and was clean and tidy on arrival.

..we also loved the amazing views from the living room window. It was close by to a lot of the areas we wanted to explore and I hope we get the opportunity to return again in the future.

The cottage was nice with plenty of space aswell as pet friendly garden.

The only concern was the standard of cleaning food was left in the oven and fridge which I had to clean before use. On the morning of departure I striped the bed which revealed a stained quilt and mattress. With the standard of cleaning being met this would be an amazing place.

The house was lovely and clean, you can tell it's a loved home and not just a revenue stream due to personal touches on the decor.

The villagers were very friendly and the village was central to plenty of places too explore. I would definitely stay again lovely home and village

This property is disgusting you need to change your cleaner big time.

the kitchen sink made me feel sick the bathroom was not much better the dust was everywhere. The living room table had so many rings on you couldn't spot where one finished and another started nothing under the sink to clean up with. We went home on the Sunday it was that bad. Sham it's a nice little place

! Bathroom freestanding black shelves dirty ?? Dirty cotton bud left in basket on the shelves,Kitchen tiles on walls dirty n greasy,cupboards doors dirty n greasy on outside,under sink shelves dirty,mirrors throughout disgustingly dirty,room tv screen disgusting,rubbish found on floor and in basket near front window and an overall smell of unclean, small bedroom the mattress was absolutely disgusting with no protector on it at all . It’s a shame because with a major over clean it could be the perfect holiday .

A lovely well maintained comfortable bungalow with stunning views from the front window.

The king size bed in the master bedroom was amazingly comfortable. Unfortunately the weather when we stayed wasn’t good enough to enjoy the garden in the evenings but would imagine it to be perfect when it is.

It was a lovely property very clean and well looked after the bed was super comfortable and also the shower was excellent The village itself was quiet and quite central to everything in snowdonia we were very lucky with the weather sunny and clear blue skies all week it only rained on the way home A perfect week away we loved it and so did the dog we didn’t want to leave We would highly recommend this property

We had a fantastic stay over Christmas,kids really enjoyed

General cleanliness was not good, dust all over.

Towels in the bathroom were the tattiness ever, but the did have new ones in the hall cupboard so unsure why the were not put out. Frying pan NOT usable, very black stuck on food, did not use and brought a new one to use. Entering from the outside there is a 8 inch step upto a slopping path, NOT suitable for disabled persons. Bathroom very small gap to get into the shower, if you are on the larger size it would be impossible to have a shower, no grab rails. Light in bathroom only one bulb working out of three. Sofa in the lounge, the sofa very low to the ground and hard to get up. Overall I would not book here again.

The property is lovely, the views are stunning!

It is a perfect location for staying local or as a cantral base to explore wider Wales- we did both! Brilliant value for money and a responsive host. The house is well equipped as a home from home and even has a slow cooker (which was fantastic for setting up dinner after a lengthy day hiking) the garden looks beautiful and likewise well equipped. Parking was great, directions to the property and instructions for arrival/checkout very clear. As mentioned to host, it could be a little clearer in the listing that there is no wifi. Not an issue if you are adventuring every day as we were.

Another good week in the property

When we arrived at Gorwell first impressions were very good untill a little later and we found that the bathroom was poorly lit due to blown light bulbs.

also the heat from the shower and radiators were very low and was unable to have a decent showere and poor heating.we were instructed by the owners letter as to not interfere with the boiler. We also had a bad experience with the bedding as this had been put onto the beds not completely dry which made the beds stink,the only way to describe this it smelt like someone had “pissed on a hot radiator”,we washed the pillow cases and duvet covers but it smelt the same.although there was a washer drier,the drier did’nt heat to dry the bedding and a clothesline was’nt readily available,so at our own expense took these to a local laundry,also poor hygiene in the kitchen area, But despite all of this we got on and had a reasonable stay

Absolutely stunning place ,perfect location with the view on the mountains ,place very clean, garden looks beautiful Definitely we will be come back in the future

This is the 4th time we have stayed here and probably the last.

Albeit be a lovely little place..the cleanliness as declined on each stay. This time we were astounded to find that the bathroom hadn't even been cleaned, the toilet was full of poo and took some time to clean.. not what u want to walk into after a long journey. The bed in the main room had been upgraded which was better, the rugs at each side are lethal as they slide very easily. The sofa and chairs are still very low and uncomfortable especially making it difficult for my disabled husband to get up from.

This cottage was fantastic.

It's in a great, quiet area, and with having two young children, the fact that it's a bungalow was great as we didn't have to worry about stairs. It was warm enough, well presented, and a very nice homey place to be. Not to mention dog friendly meaning we could bring our dog with us to join us on all of our day trips! The washing machine was great though the dryer not as great. Maybe we were using it wrong but ended up bringing our clothes to the launderette to dry them, but otherwise great! There was lots of equipment in the kitchen for making various meals and there was great communication from the owner too. Would recommend this place. We had a very happy holiday here.

1* This was my second visit to Gorwel as we really enjoyed the location but we won’t be returning in the future.

We found dog feces on the kitchen table on arrival and quickly removed it due to the smell. We decided to inform the owner Bernard who was quick to tell us that there was no dog in the accommodation before us. I didn’t think for 1 minute a dog had done this. Someone had clearly walked in it then placed their footwear on the table. Easy mistake and an apology would have been sufficient. Unfortunately I didn’t take any photos in my haste to remove it so the owner didn’t believe me. He was extremely rude and suggested I contact Skye’s if I wanted compensation or alternative accommodation. Sykes were helpful in suggesting a deep clean and possibly compensation as we also found further discrepancies in the living area and the kitchen. Unfortunately the owner was not willing to apologise or accept the blame which we found quite shocking! I have never had to complain before and I expected a better response from the owner whom in my opinion was extremely rude! After removing the duvet covers I was even more horrified to see all the stains on the duvet. Absolutely disgusting! Sykes you should review this property again. A little bit more attention to detail could quite easily make this property a 4* but unfortunately the owner isn’t interested.

Gorwel is exactly as described.

The views from the living room are fantastic.We found the beds comfortable and our kitchen had everything we needed and more. The patio area is great and catches plenty of sun. It all made for a peaceful stay. Negatives - not Gorwel's fault but a Toyota Yaris parks constantly ( on double yellow lines !! ) adjacent to Gorwel's named parking bay making manouvering in and out really difficult. We did find the living room furniture low and very uncomfortable but that is subjective. A bigger problem is lack of Wi Fi. This is so universal these days that I hadn't even checked to see if it was available when making the booking. We are an older couple , not youngsters never off our smart phones , but it was still an issue for us and had I checked beforehand I would not have booked Gorwel. This is 2024 and some things are standard these days. Lastly ( and again not Gorwel's fault ) - the pub does not do food on Mon or Tues AND if it's quiet they don't bother on other days even though food is advertised for those days. The takeaways in the village a few miles away do not deliver.

Everything was really nice we couldn't have asked for anything better It was lovely holiday there

Had a lovely few days at the cottage the views are so beautiful.

The cottage is very well equipped , I personally found the bed in larger bedroom was to firm for me so moved into smaller front bedroom. Had good nights sleep. The facilities all as described. Good size secured back garden Somy little dog had plenty of room to charge about. Lots of throws to cover furniture with but I had taken my own . The water always hot lots of large towels provided but again I had taken my own. I can recommend the Oakley pub about 10 mins drive from cottage and also just at bottom of back garden the Peng wan Arms. I would definitely return to this lovelyplace

I had a wonderful holiday, literally home from home.

Everything you needed, no short cuts. Porthmadog only 20 minutes drive, well worth a visit. The local village had a small shop, pub just up the road, result. Parking across the road, so no hassle when you return from a long day out. My girl (dog) enjoyed galloping round the garden. Defiantly a return visit due.

We had a highly enjoyable stay at Gorwel.

Great views of the mountains from the lounge, great location for mountains, woodlands and coast. Large secure back garden ideal for my dog. Good close parking. Cottage nice and warm and cosy. Modern and practical would have benefited from a few small additions, i.e. toilet paper, soap, bin liners. Would return again, friendly locals.

Excellent relaxing stay as usual

We loved out stay at Gorwel Cottage, it was a well laid out, well equipped and tastefully decorated cottage in a peaceful prime location with stunning views, lovely neighbours and a couple of horses in the field across the way who were there to greet us when we arrived.

The cottage was in a great central location enabling us to visit many areas such as Bala, Porthmadog, Barmouth etc. Generally the cottage was tidy and cleanish - bit more time spent on cleaning perhaps required in the future but this did not dampen our stay. We slept well on very comfortable mattresses and the dogs enjoyed having a good sniff around the garden although a couple of holes in the fencing need to be rectified and garden tidied a little but it didn't stop us from sitting out in the garden enjoying the sunshine and stunning views. Overall we had a fab holiday, the positives certainly outway the couple of negative issues we had. We really enjoyed staying here and we would certainly stay here again, definitely recommend it! The bungalow was very nice and tidy.

It was comfortable to stay in good location and great views.

The accommodation itself was lovely, great location and nice and peaceful with lovely views.

The seating area in the lounge could be more comfortable. There was an issue with flushing the toilet even with a small amount of toilet paper. The shower runs straight out on to the floor unless you turn the dial by a quarter turn. There was also no green bin for general waste. Apart from that we had a lovely stay and would definitely return.

This property has outstanding views of the mountains which are without doubt just gorgeous.

The garden was clean, tidy and well cared for (if you’ve got a small dog, it’s not 100% secure as my small dog found holes under the fences). The bungalow was mostly clean, needs some attention to detail cleaning (kitchen cupboards, oven, extractor fan in bathroom, shower base!) but the floors, beds, curtains etc were spotless. The mattresses on both beds are amazing but take your own pillows. So much to do in the vicinity, also a bonus, overall a good bungalow, very quiet, cosy.

Absolutely love this place could do with some bigger plates and new cutlery tastes tarnish on them x

no problems with the cottage, only problem we encountered was with the key safe, one of the keys had wedge against the opening mechanism when I put the number in.

Eventually got it open. Apart from that we had a fantastic time

Would visit Gorwel again.

Enjoyed staying at the bungalow it was a good location we had day trips out. The bungalow was equipped with everything we needed. There was no Wi-Fi but it wasn’t a problem we was out most of the day and just watched tele or a dvd of a night.

Although a fantastic property and idealic location, the property could benefit from comfier furniture, with my husband being disabled the low beds and sofas were very hard for him to get on and off.

WiFi being available would also be beneficial as this is the norm in most holiday settings.

As with other feedback I've seen, the bungalow was covered in dust and hair.

We spent over an hour cleaning when we arrived. The furniture is very low and modern and we found it uncomfortable. The bed was comfortable but again very low. Every thing you needed was their, so well equipped. The views of the mountains and waterfalls were fantastic. An ideal base for exploring Snowdonia and only an hour from Anglesey.

Excellent location , great walks from the accommodation and central location meant we didn’t travel for long to make our planned activities at Zip world and Snowdon.

Gorwel itself was great .

Everything was fine , loads of room and space however the cleanliness was disappointing, loads of dust everywhere , the floor wasn’t cleaned and the carpets looked like they weren’t hoovered

Great little bungalow, fantastic location.

Garden was secure for the dog. Then only problem we found was the furniture was very basic, uncomfortable and really low which my husband found very difficult to get out off as he is disabled. Also WiFi would be an added benefit.

Had 5 lovely days in Gorwel, wished we stayed longer!

Would definitely stay again, only critisism was the somewhat dusty floors and the uncared for and sad looking plants . Don't let that stop you from staying, cottage is in a prime location :)

Lovely bungalow, very comfortable, the view from the lounge window was amazing, great location as you could go for walks from there or drive a short way to get to all different walks.

The only thing’s that I wasn’t really happy with were the hairs & dust on the floors especially in the bathroom behind the shelf unit that has the towels on, & it could be moved but didn’t look like it had been for a very long time, & the garden wasn’t completely secure for our terrier dog, the gate was practically hanging off so we had to put the bin & tall flower pot in front of it to then get a knock on the door to say that this garden is access to next doors garden & that the gentleman needed to go into next doors garden to empty the dustbin/recycling, so we just left the dustbin in front of it or he would have got out & up in the corner near the shed there were fence panels not complete & although my dog didn’t get through, although if left long enough I’m sure he would have squeezed through, a smaller dog definitely would & although it only went into the pub garden I’m not sure if he could have got out of there but other than that we had a lovely stay.

In these current times of covid we were disappointed on the cleanliness of Gorwel .

There was dust n hair under all units including a dirty rag under the bed and as for the bathroom . . . The bin was still full the mirror / shower screen and taps were dirty and the shower step hadn't been moved for a while . And we was amazed that there was no mattress topper on bed considering state of mattress . After a long day out you need to come home to a bit of comfort but was disappointed in furniture . There is a letter on kitchen table about the covid situation but didn't seem to be upheld in Gorwel .

The owner was really helpful when contacted for the key collection.

The home was clean and tidy and a great place to base yourself for exploring the Snowdonia National Park. The most wonderful view from the front window and a lovely. Garden to sit and rest after a day out.

A good location to explore the north wales area and the bungalow is well equipped.

Good local walks both in Ffestiniog and Blaenau-Ffestiniog as well as further a field. Peaceful location would look at booking again if returning to the area.

This place is the best I've stayed in and as I've done this holiday 37 times to .

Rubbish collection appeared to be a problem.

As requested we left all the rubbish out, but the refuse collectors did not collect the general household waste. When we arrived there was the previous tenants refuse still uncollected. Perhaps a more detailed set of instructions / collection dates would be useful.

The bungalow was clean and comfortable.

Good communications from the owner. Only draw back was the weather.

Our first visit to Wales and could not believe the fantastic views.

Snowdonia was great. Everyone should do the Zip wire great adventure.

Lovely cottage in picturesque settings, Quiet and relaxing

We couldnt find the visitors book and we wanted to leave some feedback re: items of clothing left behind in a drawer by the previous occupants.

Also they had put items in the outside bin which were not bagged properly and therefore the refuse collectors did not empty the bin. We feel that these issues should have been picked up before the handover.

The cottage was grate.

But the area was to quiet. There was no were in Blaenau Ffestiniog or Llan Ffestiniog to get anything to eat on a Saturday evening or night. no one did any cooking. We had no option but to cook our selves. Not what we wanted after a long drive and unpacking. The area has some beautiful scenery and there were places about 20 miles and further afield to see. The Blaenau ffestiniog railway only ran two trains a day. But they were so close together you would have to ride it to were you wanted to go and stay on the train to get back. Could not fault the cottage would stay there again if it was not in this area.

the view from the front window was spectacular, we felt really at home .It made a great base for exploring the surrounding countryside, great for dog walking, and also for visiting the surrounding areas such as porthmadog/ Llandudno/colywyn bay etc. We would highly recommend Gorwel !
