“The holiday cottage is huge, plenty of space to meet our needs, lots of character and an ideal base to explore the surrounding areas.”
We personally found the beds uncomfortable, one so much so we couldn't use that bedroom at all. The general upkeep and cleanliness was lacking, thick dust throughout, lots of stains on curtains etc. The kitchen in particular was extremely disappointing with a dirty and very rusty fridge, heavy limescale on the kettle, sink & worktops not properly cleaned and every cupboard and kickboard filthy. The washing machine is covered in gunk and mould, shower heads and around shower screens also showing mould. The bifold doors is not fixed from at least May (going by an earlier review mentioning this) and garden although very secure for our dog had a large area full of broken plant pots and dead Christmas trees. The gate to access the property needs to be held open to enter/exit. I think with a deep clean and maintenance this property would be fabulous but for us it was not to expected standard. Owner was contacted during our stay and did offer for the caretaker to come and address issues but we felt there was too much needing to be done and we didn't want our holiday time disrupted by accomodating intensive cleaning.
Dear Scott,
Thank you for your review, I am pleased that you enjoyed the location, size and character of the house.
The vast majority of our guests have rated cleanliness highly with some calling the house "spotless" , and our cleaner and caretaker are excellent.
When an issue was raised during your stay we immediately offered to attend but because you declined this offer we were unable to witness your claims which contradict other guests reviews.
Regarding the beds , they are a combination of John Lewis, IKEA and other trusted suppliers. Most guests find them to be comfortable.
Regarding the large area with dead Christmas trees , this is the compost heap.
Regarding the bifold doors , these are indeed locked and they will remain so for safety/security reasons. There is another door 1 metre away from the bifold doors which provides garden access.
The gate to access the property does not need to be held open to enter/exit.
Kind regards
Mike Stringer
