“Arrived home yesterday after a wonderful few days at Cefn Isaf cottage and want to go back again already.”

The cottage is well equipped with everything you need and is very spacious and comfortable. Everywhere was cleaned to a very high standard and the beds are super comfy. The cottage has a lovely outdoor space with lovely views where you can watch the sheep and you can walk up the track and take in the spectacular views. We had a slight issue with the downstairs toilet and Jon the caretaker was round in no time at all and fixed the problem straight away. I would not hesitate to recommend this cottage to anyone and will look forward to returning one day soon myself. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

“It's a beautiful cottage and the pictures perhaps don't show truly how spacious it is.”

Lovely big inside dining area, patio, and lounge - there were eight of us and a dog and we didn't feel on-top of each other. Immaculately clean and lovely homely decor. The driveway is fine for normal cars (you don't need a 4x4) ... a little steep and narrow in a couple of places, but once you have done it a few times you get used to it. Plenty of park for three cars ... you have to shuffle to turn them around ready to go out again, but again, once you've figured out the moves, it's pretty easy. We did struggle with the water pressure if all three showers/baths were being used at once - but we were there on Aug bank holiday week when the mains pressure is at it's lowest. I've mentioned the trickier bits above but do not let these put you off - it's a lovely, lovely cottage that we wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

“First of all, don't worry about the drive.”

We had three cars and not a 4x4 between us! There are two concrete tracks with grass in between, so keep on those, keep in low gear, and you'll be fine. The house is great for a family of eight, with plenty of space, a lovely situation and some nice walks and views all around. If you're energetic enough, you can even walk to the top of Moelygest! All the sights of Snowdonia and north west Wales are within easy reach as are the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways. There are plenty of shopping facilities in nearby Porthmadog with a Tesco, Spar, Aldi and Lidl, so you won't go hungry! The nearest beach, Black Rock Sands, is at Morfa Bychan. This is a stretch of firm sand three miles long and as you can take the car onto the beach there's no need to carry all the beach stuff from a distant car park. The house is a converted pig farm, so do watch out for the low beams and ceilings upstairs. You'll soon get used to ducking! There are one or two quirky features such as a window between the main bedroom and the dining room; it doesn't have a blind or a curtain, but we managed to block it up with a couple cushions. Another weird feature is the en suit to the main bedroom - it doesn't have a door! Again, we overcame this, and stood one of the suitcases where a door should be to indicate that it was occupied. All in all a splendid holiday house which comes highly recommended.

Felt welcomed and the children(teenagers) had a really enjoyable time playing football and badminton with neighbours. The cottage is well appointed comfortable, and the only slight drawback for me was knocking my head on the sloping ceiling of our upstairs bedroom. Great outdoor space. Lovely walks.

“I would highly recommend this cottage.”

Setting was beautiful and the accommodation itself was perfect. The only improvement suggestion would be the sign posting of the location. It took us 45 mins to find the location because there were no clear signs (even the Sat Nav could not help us much!). Once we were there - everything went smoothly.

“We booked a week at this lovely cottage in Porthmadog during Mid November.”

The facilities within the house were excellent. The heating system was on when we arrived and had the rooms toastie warm even though it was very cold at this time of the year outside. We couldnt fault the cottage apart from the very tricky steep and slippery drive up the track leading to the house. Lucky to have a 4x4! For a peaceful and rural escape with shops and cafes/restaurants etc close at hand it is hard to beat. we used the open log fire most nights which made it very cosy indeed. Would highly recommend this house for a lovely seaside/ country break.

“Another fabulous week at Cefn isaf.”

the cottage is wonderful and although we are only home yesterday we are already discussing returning next year. the situation is very rural yet 5 mins drive from porthmadog with supermarkets and shops. the bedrooms are very comfortable the lounge and dinning areas easily accommodate a group of 8 the kitchen is large and well equipped. a great holiday cottage.

“The Accuracy of the listing was inadequate with regards to the property access.”

The track leading to the property was very steep, rough and slippery when wet. Also there are two gates that have to be opened and closed, both gates are poorly fitted making the them difficult to operate. These conditions will make it difficult for anyone with a physical impairment. The two first floor bathrooms have baths under the sloping roof again making bathing difficult and not fitted with a shower curtain. There was a strong smell of unburnt heating oil in the utility room suggesting an oil line leak that should be investigated ASAP.

“Beautifully presented spacious property with terrace overlooking fields of delightful lambs.”

Upstairs has very low ceilings and the beams in the bathrooms were very challenging! It was more remote than we had anticipated and the walk to the beach was too far and difficult for our mum. The rough track was as described, ok for our SUV but we wouldn’t have wanted to do it in another car. Lovely area and super property but most suited to short, fit people seeking a peaceful retreat.

Excellent accommodation, slight issue with cupboard door falling off first night which it turns out had had a temporary fix but reported to caretaker so all sorted with out issue, only 3 of us staying so the property had more than enough space [would hold the max of 8 people easily], great views,just the place to relax and switch off , drive up from the main road was fun but may be a problem with larger cars or bad weather, took a while to find the bins located in the next field as no information given at the property, overall a great place to stay and the property is without fault

“We had a fantastic week, despite the weather.”

Heavy rain most days but some spells of not! All amenities within the property were there as described. We couldn’t enjoy the outdoor space due to the weather - maybe upgrading the shed to a summerhouse (with log burner), would be a massive bonus, but we did utilise the indoor fire with provided logs ( that’s a British Summer for you)! Easy access to the hills behind the property which have fantastic views and easy drives to villages/towns/the coast. Thank you Cefn Isaf.

Amazing sunset views. Easy strolls from front door. Great amenities and beach within short drive. Within 20mins of Snowdonian mountains and many holiday activities. We have only one suggestion, perhaps an electric fan could be provided. Porthmadog turned out to be the hottest place in England during our one week stay!!! Thank you for a wonderful place to stay.

Very warm and comfortable. The only negative is that, we didn't realise that the sloping ceilings upstairs would be so low. Bumped heads for a couple of days, until we got used to the space. This however, would not stop us booking this cottage again, as everything else was fine.

Ideally situated for north Wales and llynn peninsula exploring . Very spacious, comfortable and everything provided in facilities you would need. I was concerned about the access after reading reviews but need not have worried, yes it is narrow and winding but very easy to manoeuvre and as we are from Yorkshire we are used to country tracks. The walk to the beach is 2 miles either over the hills or by countryside road , both very enjoyable. We would definitely recommend and return again.

“The property was lovely although the access was less than ideal.”

My main annoyance was the check in time of 5pm and the check out time of 9am! When you have small children who need to be in bed by 7pm it certainly makes the start to holiday hectic and stressful. I certainly would not book anywhere with that check in time again. Then to have the cheek to expect you to strip all the beds and sort the bins and be out by 9am!!! Given the ridiculous times, I would expect all this ‘housekeeping’ to be done for me, so not only was the start of the holiday stressful but then I had concern myself with stripping beds and loading bags of rubbish into my car with all my luggage and of course being out by 9am with 2 small children. Never again!! Totally spoilt it for me and if those times are general for Skyes Cottages then I’ll be telling all my friends with children to steer clear.

“Cefn Isaf is a beautiful, clean, well-maintained property which I am sure we would have enjoyed even more if it had not been for the restrictions posed on everyone by the Covid pandemic.”

The necessary removal of comfortable cushions and soft furnishings etc and even more so, the maps, guides and suggestions of places to visit during our stay which, I understand are usually provided, did make a slight difference. However that is in no way the fault of the owners or housekeepers! The warm welcome which awaited us at the cottage was a lovely start to our holiday and was very much appreciated by all. Our 3 grandchildren aged 14,16 and 20 loved the sheep and the cows in particular which came to visit them over the garden gate on most mornings! Would love to visit again in 'normal' times.

“Fantastic location as a base to explore and the cottage was beautiful, comfortable, warm and had everything we needed.”

A couple of things though it might be worth having in the details. The driveway to the cottage was very steep and quite difficult to manoeuvre, a warning about that would be useful, originally we were having three couple travel and one driver who has some mobility issues would not have been able to negotiate the driveway. Also the master bedroom upstairs with the sloping ceiling and beams did cause a couple of problems on the first day and a bruised head, would be worth mentioning this as well so guests are forewarned. However it is a beautiful property and just the escape we needed from the world for a few days. Will definitely be back.

The notices were unfriendly about not touching things. We had a problem with hot water and heating but were not really given an apology. Also check in time and check out time . I understand they have to be aired but this was too much. I live in Cornwall and deal with turn around but nowhere here is later than a 5 o’clock check in.

“We absolutely loved this cottage, so much so we are booking for next year.”

There was 5 adults (mum dad husband brother), my nephew (9) and springer spaniel, Calle. It was perfect. The cottage was absolutely spotless... beautiful location and grounds, nice and secure for Calle. Lovely fresh roses on the dining table we’re waiting for us. We’ve stayed in quite a lot of cottages including chipping campden , but this was our favourite. We can’t wait to come back!! Thank you!

For just two people we would expected to have a discount offered when booking. For the cost per week it should have had a selection DVDs available and a larger more modern TV and DVD player which had not been set up properly on arrival. “What a beautiful place, so much space.”

The views were exceptional. It was so peaceful and quiet. The little things like flowers left, lamps on in each room when we arrived gave it such a homely feel. We made use of the garden andBBQ. Only advisory I would add is even though the instructions say the lane is bumpy it doesn’t warn you about steep gradient down to house and if your car is low down to the ground it is a bit of a struggle to get in and out of the property. Did not spoil our holiday though. The whole holiday was wonderful and would recommend it to people.

The property

Cefn Isaf holiday cottage is a peaceful haven with wonderful open views of the countryside but only a hop from the beach.

It's the perfect retreat to return to after a busy day out.

Close to the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways you can hop on a train to Bounce Below!

For the more sedate a short drive to the Italianate village of Portmeirion, designed by the owner's great-uncle, Sir Clough Williams-Ellis. Romantic and relaxing, wonderful solid oak floors and beams, a blend of antique and contemporary furniture, Cefn Isaf is a delightful holiday retreat which will be enjoyed and appreciated by families and friends any time of the year. Note: track to the house is rough,,steep and bumpy and there is two farm gates one on entry and one closer to the property which must be closed at all times.

PORTHMADOG

Harlech 5 miles; Caernarfon 19 miles.

The bustling harbour town of Porthmadog lies on the Glaslyn Estuary and enjoys a stunning setting. The gateway to the Snowdonia National Park, Porthmadog is full of individual shops and restaurants, and home to the Ffestiniog Railway and the Welsh Highland railway where you can travel by steam through spectacular Snowdonia scenery, to Blaenau Ffestiniog or Caerforn . The pretty village of Borth Y Gest, with its cliffs and coves, is a short walk or drive from the town. The well known and unique Italianate village of Portmeirion is just down the coast. Situated on a rugged clifftop on its own private peninsula, Portmeirion, famous as the location of the TV show The Prisoner and the final episode of Cold Feet, is surrounded by miles of sandy beaches and woodlands. The area also boasts castles at Criccieth and Harlech, and superb unspoilt beaches such as Black Rock Sands, where the sands stretch as far as the eye can see. Also within reach is the famous Zip World Slate Caverns and Bounce Below where you can get involved with a variety of activities including the thrilling zip wires and underground caverns to explore; there is something here to suit the whole family. An ideal location for the attractions of Snowdonia and the The Lleyn Peninsula.
