Get out those Marigold gloves!

Spring cleaning time! We love it too, which is why we have a blog about it. Spring brings with it an opportunity to really freshen up your home. The change in season is the ideal time to make some big changes to the décor in your property. You might have some ideas for the living room or the bedrooms that you’ve been wanting to get stuck into for a while. Or, you might just fancy a change because you think some of the layout or furniture is getting to look a bit dull.

You could also find yourself looking at your property knowing you want to make a change, but with no idea where to get started. The real question is what changes can you make to help the property stand out to holidaymakers during peak season? After all, the décor of your property is going to be a big draw for a lot of your potential tenants. In the age of social media and influencers, having somewhere that serves as an idyllic backdrop for the most Instagram-worthy holiday selfie has almost become a feature in itself. In this blog, we’ll list out our top tips for decorating your holiday home this Spring that’ll help your property stand out.

Why is Spring the perfect time to decorate your home

Spring is a transitional time of year, when days of sunshine start to get longer, and when nature’s colours begin to return. Bringing vivid colours to the world, spring banishes winter’s gloomy greys with earthy tones and greens of all shades. With each season comes the latest trends which dictate how we decorate our homes.

The way you decorate your property can have a big impact on guests’ enjoyment of your space. Redecorating could mean introducing warmer spaces with lots of light to help show off your home and help guests picture themselves staying there. Or adding some updated furniture, arranged to bring people together making your home the perfect spot for families or small groups looking to get away. Spring’s association with cleaning and a fresh start makes it an ideal time to add some new life to your home. New guests will appreciate the modern décor and returning guests will experience something familiar through a fresh set of eyes.

How to get your property ready for spring

It’s completely up to you what changes you want to make at your property. However, here are some of our picks for places to start in preparation for the Spring season.

Outside the Property

 Spruce up your spring garden

Nowhere around the home says spring like the garden, making it the ideal place to start if you’re looking to spruce up your property for spring. Seasonal plants and flowers are always a hit, especially here in Wales. If you get a chance, plant some daffodil bulbs, and have them add a splash of yellow to your space every spring. If you’re looking for something a bit easier, consider working on a more weather-resistant space. Gravel gardens are gaining popularity and can be used year-round. If you’re looking to introduce some eco-friendly options to your space, the new xeriscaping movement (think desert oasis) is making waves with landscapers who introduce slow-growing, weather-tolerant plants so gardens use less water.

Add some vibrance to outdoor furniture

As the weather gets better your outdoor spaces will see more use. Outdoor furniture can take a beating from the weather – so the first thing they might need is a bit of a cleaning. But if you’re looking for ways to bring more spring colours to your garden the most effective way is to add a splash of colour to the furniture. Adding new pillows, or outdoor throws with floral patterns or bold colours will help add a boost of vibrant colours that can quickly brighten up and transform your space.

If you’re brave – re-paint the exterior

As the weather starts to get better you’ll have more opportunities to add some colour to the outside of your property. Painting in hot weather can be difficult. Paint can dry too quickly and cause uneven coats, so spring is the ideal time to get the rollers out! Re-painting the exterior of a property is no small feat, and will likely require the work of professionals, but as a means of adding some springtime wow factor to your property, you can’t do anything bigger than the colour of the property.

 Decorate Inside the property

Bring in the outdoors with natural lighting

With Spring comes the sun, which means your property will benefit from more natural light throughout the day. If you’re redecorating your home this spring take into account the impact lighting will have on what choices you make. Colours like white create a calming feel and help spread light further into the property by bouncing it to places it might not otherwise reach. Paired with pastel spring colours making the most of natural light can really bring new life to your property.

Cosy up the couches by adding some flair to your furniture

Cozy Easter, spring still life scene. Cup of coffee, opened notebook, pink knitted plaid on the windowsill. Vintage feminine styled photo, floral composition with tulips, hyacinth and Gypsophila flowers.

Light-coloured throw blankets are an easy and cost-effective way of transforming a space quickly. As the seasons change, your guests won’t need heavy blankets to keep warm. Instead, they might want to cuddle up under a comfy throw as they wind down for the evening. You might want to consider investing in some pastel throws that are lighter and perfect for warmer evenings.

Get right up their nose – focus on the spring fragrance!

Nothing says spring like the fresh smell of flowers, citrus fruits, or fresh outdoor smells (like freshly washed clothes). Keeping fresh flowers in your property can be a challenge, even if it is a fully managed home. However, you can invest in diffusers that release pleasant scents throughout your home at regular intervals. Walking into a fresh-smelling home adds the finishing touch to the welcome experience your guests get at your home and is a subtle way to make your property stand out.

Make some office space

We know most people think of a holiday as their main way to get away from work, but with the number of people able to work from home increasing, many are opting for what we call work cations. Brits are now 38% more likely to work from home while on holiday compared to before the pandemic. You don’t have to invest in a whole office suite. However, making sure people have access to the web so that they can work remotely is an excellent place to start.

29% of guests say good Wi-Fi is an accommodation priority for them now, for both work purposes and to access entertainment.

Tips and reminders for Springtime decorating

It’s easy to get carried away with an exciting project, and while Spring is an ideal time to get some work done, it can still be one of the busiest times of the year for your property. Our top tip when it comes to updating your property’s décor is to tackle it one job at a time. That way, you’re not interrupting guests during their stay and can keep your property available for those peak-season bookings. We also suggest setting reasonable timelines for when work can be completed. This will give more than enough time for the paint to dry and for the home to refresh before accepting new guests – no one wants to walk into a home smelling like paint!
