The house is situated in a beautiful location on the beach, it’s not a sandy beach as such but fabulous for walking. We were advised at the end of July that we were not able to enter the property until 5.00p.m and we had to vacate by 9.00a.m, a slight change due to the current situation around the covid-19 pandemic to allow extra time for cleaning. We arrived at the property a little early and having waited outside for a considerable amount of time (in 60mph winds) realised the cleaning must have been finished as no one appeared to be coming, so entered slightly earlier than 5pm. The owner arrived quite shortly after at 4.45p.m. and the reaction to this was incredibly irrational. Comments such as: - “Have you no respect for the property?”, “No wonder the country is in the state it’s in with people like you”, “What is the matter with this country?” (there were many more). It was aggressive and completely inappropriate, in the context of the situation it was also absolutely uncalled for. This behaviour was most upsetting for the family and especially for the children. We felt most unsettled and unwelcome to the degree that we did consider leaving right away. After entry into the property, we were given instructions in writing regarding the cleaning required at the end of our stay, designed to protect the cleaners. The level and depth of cleaning would have made it extremely difficult to be accomplished by 9.00a.m. on the day of departure and therefore we chose to leave the day before. It was also clear that the previous occupants and cleaners had not followed all points listed. Irrespective of our “greeting” as part of this review I feel I ought to mention the attention to detail in this property was severely lacking such as:- the general cleanliness was poor; one of the single bed sheets was stained and looked dirty and needed washing prior to use; it was very difficult to get the sheet dry as there is no washing line and no other means of drying; minimal supply of towels (not even a bath sheet) in the smaller bedrooms; the oven, the fridges and cupboards were not clean; lack of kitchen utensils and utensils for the log burner; many light bulbs not working. Comments about the condition of the property have been made many times by previous customers, but this has been overlooked by the owner. Given the rental cost of this property and its lovely appearance it’s a shame we were so let down on the above points and the irrational way we were greeted.
