Mark “We had a very nice week in Penty.”
4 adults and there was plenty of space for us all. The facilities were good and we had no problems. Lovely views of the mountains and the town only a few minutes walk away.

Paul “We had stayed back 2016 and found a lovely cottage enjoying a week's holiday, so returning this September (2024) and finding the cottage freshly done up.”
The owner was available if we required anything checking we had settled in. There was all modern amenities. Would like to have instructions on managing rubbish and recycling as Wales has a different procedure. I would love to be able to complete a visitor book to share our experience to future visitors. Really enjoyed our stay thank you
- Paul, September 2024Thank you for re booking with us, I will definitely take your suggestions on board Property Owner

Very comfy beds. Friendly owner Mrs Jones :-) good parking and close to the town center but on a quiet road. The Spar shop close by is really good!

Christopher “We had a great time in the cottage.”
Excellent base and the fact it was dog-friendly is a bonus! It was very well thought out, especially for a dog. The facilities were ample if you wanted to have a night in cooking, however, we chose the pub most nights as it's such a short walk (5 mins) into Dolgellau, and the hill isn't that bad getting back up it :)
- Christopher, June 2024 -
Jill “Another good week at Penty.”
The cottage had everything we needed. Dawn was at hand for any questions and information. The cottage is onlt a 10 minute walk from the town for shopping and to have a coffee or meal. T H Roberts is a must for coffee and cake or something more. I'm sure we will be back soon as the cottage is a good base to visit family.

Philip “Really excellent accommodation in an ideal place.”
The holiday let was spotlessly clean and well equipped. Great views of Dolgellau and the Cadair Idris mountains with sheep and cows in the field at the back, stayed here about 3 years ago and since then the kitchen has been refurbished to a lovely standard. Owner is next door but leaves you alone. I guess the only negative was being used to a much larger smart TV at home the TV was small and had limited freeview channels; an internet connection to the TV would help, not that we go on holiday to watch TV but the weather was cold for June. Ideal base for some lovely beach resorts and Eryri National Park. We found Bedgellert lovely, Betwys-coed very touristy with rip-off prices. Done 3 of the walks in the guest book, Torrent walk is free , close by and excellent. Saw dolphins at Tywyn which is a lovely place with a great beach. Would highly recommend.
- Philip, June 2024 -
Philip “A great place to stay at this upside down house , which has views across the fields to the rear and across the valley at the front.”
The house was clean and tidy and the kitchen well stocked. An added bonus is that the owner is on site should any problems occur. It is probably worth mentioning that the house is half way up a very steep hill so anybody with limited mobility would struggle coming back up. We would definitely consider a return visit in the future.

Jean “Perfect holiday accommodation.”
Very comfortable and clean. Lovely views from windows - fields at the rear and mountain views from the front. Comfortable bed and good shower. 10 minute walk into Dolgellau down hill. Quite steep on the way back. We hired electric bikes from Dolgellau Cycles - very nice man in the shop. We cycled the Mawddach Trail - very flat and easy ride to Barmouth. Very clean beaches at Fairfield, Towyn, Aberdyfi (good fish and chip shop on the front) and Barmouth. Lovely ride on Talyllyn Railway to Dolgoch waterfalls. We booked Sunday lunch at The Torrent Walk Hotel which was delicious and the small plate option is very good value with a lovely rhubarb crumble to follow! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Penty and highly recommend this property.

Joseph “Brilliant cottage with the most amazing views of Cadair Idris on one side and sheep with their lambs in the other, especially from the top floor lounge/dining area.”
The cottage is well equipped, very clean and with on site parking and good access to the town for pubs, buses and shops. This was our second stay here in this cottage and we shall definitely come again.

Jen “We had a lovely stay for a week in Penty.”
The house was perfect for our needs, warm, clean, comfortable, and with everything we needed. The view over the town from the front windows was fabulous, and the smart TV with firestick kept us occupied in the autumn evenings. The house has been recently renovated with thermostat controlled central heating and modern fire - it was always cosy. The owner lives next door but does not overlook the property. And a recommendation if you're visiting... T H Roberts tea room in town does fabulous homemade cakes....

Robert “Great property, couldn't fault it in any way.”
- Robert, November 2023 -
Terry “A lovely upside-down Welsch cottage close to Dolgellau.”
Spotlessly clean and with an extremely well-equipped kitchen. Great views over the valley. Very toasty with the new Gas central heating. Comfy beds.
- Terry, November 2023 -
Alex “A lovely place with a great view.”
Care should be taken when parking as it is off a steep narrow road. It is best to reverse in but do it in 2 maneuvers
- Alex, October 2023 -
Katrina “Lovely property everything you need for a week away, Lovely views would highly recommend we all loved our holiday”
- Katrina, September 2023 -
Esther “This holiday cottage was very clean, peaceful and very comfortable!”
It gave us easy access to lots of days out! The cottage had everything and more that you would need for a very nice stay in North wales! We will most definitely be back again!
- Esther, August 2023 -
Gary “Fantastic cottage with priceless views.”
A great location for exploring all of Snowdonia national park whilst also benefiting from the the amazing beach at Barmouth, we would highly recommend.
- Gary, August 2023 -
Sandra “PENTY cottage was as good as the reviews I had read before our visit.”
It was warm and comfortable regardless of the damp weather most of the week. The property is spacious and very well equipped with everything we needed. It would have been very pleasant to sit outside if the weather had been better as the views from the front were wonderful and from the back fields with cows and sheep. The only downside was that we were hoping to eat out most evenings as it was a short walk into the town but maybe because it was not high season but there was very little choice.
- Sandra, June 2023 -
Alexander “Excellent holiday cottage on the outskirts of Dolgellau.”
On a quiet road with pleasant farmland view behind, and panoramic mountain view from the elevated lounge/kitchen area. Would certainly return if visiting the area in the future

Tim “Had a fabulous stay, lovely property, great location, just a few minutes from the centre and shops, easy access to lots of wonderful walks.”
Property is spacious and light, had everything we needed and was clean, fresh and quiet. Great value for money, have already booked to return. We did have to supervise the dogs in the garden as it is not fully enclosed, but we were aware of that before booking.
- Tim, June 2023 -
Tracey “This is the 2nd time I've stayed and loved it.”
- Tracey, May 2023 -
Daryl “Very comfortable holiday cottage - with fabulous views of Cadair Idris from the dining/sitting area - we loved it.”

Great views from the window. A ten minute walk to the dolgellau but the walk back take a bit longer with the hill if u got bad legs and old dogs.

Linda “We had a great week at Penty.”
The cottage was lovely, warm and well maintained and is in an ideal spot for exploring the area. A cheese grater, pasta bowls and a set of pasta bowls would be a useful addition. Dolgellau is a really nice town. I would highly recommend a stay in this cottage.
- Linda, March 2023 -
Elaine “There is a great view from the holiday cottage towards Cadair Idris.”
In the field at the back we watched lambs being born in the field. The cottage was warm and comfortable on a very wet week in March.
- Elaine, March 2023 -

Laura “This lovely cottage is a real find.”
It’s in a quiet location with spectacular views of the mountains all around. There are so many beaches and mountain activities all within east driving distance of the cottage. Our children loved waking up to see the cows in the field right by the back garden every morning. The cottage was extremely clean, and the kitchen was immaculate. We will definitely be returning again soon!
- Laura, August 2022 -
Jill “What a lovely surprise when arriving at the cottage to find the kitchen and dining area had been refurbished after the photos had been taken for Sykes website (although they have now been updated).”
The cottage had everything we needed and the views from the upstairs windows were amazing. The cottage is only a 10 minute walk from the shops, cafes and pubs which meant there was everything close by for our week away. Would recommend this cottage and will stay again in the future.
- Jill, June 2022 -
Tracey “The property was beautiful.”

Daniel “Lovely little house, we couldn't have asked for anything more.”
- Daniel, August 2021 -
Philip “The best compliment you can give is would you stay here again and would you recommend it.”
The answer is yes to both. It exceeded expectations, it has everything you need, is reasonably priced and is in an excellent location. I bought my 82 year old mother here for a break and she loved it. Dolgellau is a lovely town with a stunning backdrop with the Cadair Idris mountains. Beautiful beaches at Abermaw (Barmouth) and Aberdyfi on the doorstep. And of course Snowdonia. The owner is there at the B&B next door but completely unobtrusive and respected our privacy but there if you need anything. Wifi was excellent too. All in all highly recommended, a little gem.
- Philip, July 2021 -
Gloria “Very good cottage.”
Convenient for exploring Snowdonia.
- Gloria, June 2021 -
Anthony “Light airy living area with fantastic views.”
Superb weather!
- Anthony, June 2021 -
Mike “Really impressed with the standard of the cottage.”
Lots of space, very clean, excellent location for discovering the area. The photos of the view from the upstairs do not do justice to having breakfast and a morning coffee watching the most evaporate in the warm sun.
- Mike, May 2021 -
Lynsey “The best cottage we have ever stayed at as a family.”
5 ***** standard. The views of the mountains from the upstairs living area are outstanding. The cows and sheep with their young, which was the back garden view, was just beautiful. The cottage itself has everything you need and more. I took everything with me as have stayed at many properties that didn't have eg a tea towel / washing up liquid etc but I brought it all home again as Dawn who manages the property has made sure absolutely everything is catered for. We had a welcome gift when we arrived too which was delicious! I would highly recommend this property and hope to return. Well done Y Penty.
- Lynsey, April 2021 -
James “A clean and well provisioned house.”
Stunning views and the upside-down layout works very well for this house giving a nice airy feel to the main living space. Thank you for a great stay. The only minor quibble is it would be nice to have WiFi capability, but I still coped OK just using mobile data for looking up weather, maps, etc.
- James, September 2019 -
Colin “While the cottage itself was comfortable,it was not dog friendly, the garden was very small and not suitable for pets to be let out, access was poor, and there were no gates to keep them enclosed.”
- Colin, August 2019 -
Mary “The cottage is in a fabulous position, easy to walk into the village and fabulous views”
- Mary, August 2019 -
Maria “Cottage makes a great base and has everything you could possibly need.”
It lacks WiFi, but you can use the dining room at the BnB next door if you're desperate. The owners clearly listen to feedback, as there are now garden chairs to use (as mentioned in an earlier review). I don't really have any practical suggestions for improvement - would certainly stay here again.
- Maria, July 2019 -
Margaret “This cottage was very comfortable to stay in and the view is wonderful.”
- Margaret, April 2019 -
Adam “Lovely house with amazing views Dawn was a great host with fantastic communication.”
I would highly recommend staying here.
- Adam, June 2018 -
Lyn “Very clean inside amazing views.”
Downside was garden area accessible by very steep steps with rickety hand rail nit suitable for children elderly or disabled and difficult if you had undisciplined dogs as no security to area and it is only accessible by walking out of front door and walking round the back and up the steps not great in the dark. However my dog is well behaved and we were out all day views from cottage amazing and so for us it was a great holiday.
- Lyn, May 2018 -
Andrew “Very clean and loved the upside down living arrangements which gave beautiful views from the living room”
- Andrew, October 2017 -
Cherry “We felt it lacked some chairs to sit outside as the weather was very good but we had a lovely week there.”
There are some really nice places to walk and everyone was friendly

- David, October 2014 -
Howard “The property was well prepared and presented and was in a good location only a few minutes walk into the town.”
The views from the cottage were stunning.
- Howard, July 2014 -
Mr Barbrooke “We were new to North Wales and we found our location perfect for travelling around the area.”
Despite that the weather forecast from the internet was not good we only encountered an hour of rain on one day. We feel that we need to revisit this area because we still feel there is lots to see.
- Mr Barbrooke, July 2014 -
Wayne “Very peaceful cottage, wonderful views of the mountains.”
- Wayne, May 2014 -
Ines “The cottage was lovely and warm when we first arrived on a cold evening.”
Everything we needed was available to use. Lovely views from upstairs, which we really enjoyed at meal times. A great place to set off for beautiful walks.

Kamla “We enjoyed our stay at the cottage.”
The proprietor was very helpful. The cottage was very well maintained and comfortable. The cottage is located a 10 minute walk to the town centre and there is easy accessibility to local sites and attractions. The cottage was a good base from which to enjoy our many activities. A very enjoyable and relaxing holiday was had by our family. We would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone wishing to explore this part of Wales.
- Kamla, August 2013 -
Peter “The cottage was fantastic, the views breathtaking from the living room, and dining area upstairs.”
Will be going back next year without hesitation.
- Peter, August 2013 -
Peter “The view was superb as was the general location.”
The cottage was really roomy and well presented throughout. We particularly liked the fact that it was also a small holding with animals about in the fields - we enjoyed watching the chickens! A really good place for a holiday, giving great access to some beautiful countryside. We enjoyed staying there very much.
- Peter, June 2013 -
Wendy “Excellent cottage, warm, comfortable and well equipped.”
The views from the upstairs living accommodation are magnificent and I enjoyed watching the calves, the lambs and the cockerel! Very close to the town, the steep hill hard work but not impossible.
- Wendy, May 2013 -
John “Good location for Cadair Idris, the Arans and the Rhinogs.”
It was very comfortable and just what we look for in a cottage for such a holiday. Also had nice views of the town and Cadair Idris.
- John, November 2012 -
Colin “Location and the views from the lounge windows.”
The upside down cottage idea works really well so that you get stunning views when eating. Being next door to the owner was very useful.
- Colin, August 2012 -
Mr Winn “The views were as good as described, we loved seeing the range of animals at the back and the incredible views at the front.”
The cottage is in a quiet location, and there is plenty of room and equipment provided.

Neil “A great location with superb views.”
The owners were friendly and helpful.
- Neil, June 2012 -
Christine “It was a very comfortable quirky cottage with fabulous views and lots of animals.”
Great walking and biking in the vicinity. We climbed Cadair Idris and the Aran Ridge. We biked the Mawwdach trail to Barmouth straight from the cottage and had great fun mountain-biking in Coed-y Brenin-forest.
- Christine, May 2012 -
Norman “Wonderful location for walking and enjoying the surrounding area.”
- Norman, April 2012 -
Susan “The location was excellent for walking and cycling with a good selection of pubs and shops nearby.”
- Susan, September 2011 -
Joanna “Friendly owner and a lovely view from the kitchen window - I could sit there for hours looking at the comings and goings of all the farm animals and wild rabbits.”
- Joanna, August 2011 -
Dawn “The views from the cottage were absolutely spectacular, from overlooking the valley up to the breathtaking mountains and the fields to the rear with calves and rabbits.”
We never got bored of looking out of the windows and this was maximised by the upstairs downstairs arrangement. The cottage felt modern, comfortable and clean, a home from home. The owner was pleasant and friendly but gave you complete privacy, even though only next door, and made the offer of assistance if required. The nearby Precipice Walk is a must as we saw the most beautiful scenery we have ever seen and we would like to revisit.
- Dawn, August 2011 -
Christopher “A lovely property set in a beautiful location!”
- Christopher, July 2011 -
A “The property was fantastic - everything was there - but when you're 70 that hill - oh dear - what a climb!”
