Plas Dorothea is a detached country house in Talysarn, Gwynedd, North Wales.

Entering the property, many can appreciate its original tiled flooring; honing into this property's traditional feel.

Towards the rear of the property are the stand-out features of this home; an impressive bar with seating and a darts board for some friendly competition, and the kitchen is nearby to rustle up some pub-like grub.
If you are the grill master of the group, you can utilise the garden with a barbecue in the patio area; the kids and pets can play on the lawn, and mornings can be enjoyed with the surrounding views of the mountains.
Upstairs there are five more bedrooms, some with sofas, TVs, and some with en-suites but all with character and plenty of space to rest for the night.
With peaks, paths, and plenty of scenery visit Eryi National Park (Snowdonia), the largest national park in Wales, and be sure to enjoy the starry sky at night as there is little to no light pollution.
Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways is a steam train with observation seats that can be booked for unobstructed views of the stunning scenery through the Welsh mountains.
Caernarfon Castle, is a beautifully preserved 13th-century waterfront castle, with an interesting history to read up on and if you want to climb up the steep winding stairs; you will be rewarded with sunset views from the top.
For a family day out, Pili Palas Nature World is a great place for children to get up close to various animals and insects.

We stayed at Plas Dorothea from 13-17 October as a group of 14, plus two dogs, and had a wonderful family break.
The property doesn't pretend to be a luxury, five-star retreat. Instead, it is a charming, characterful old house full of history, quirks and rustic charm. If you're looking for sleek, modern interiors and hotel-style perfection, this probably isn't the place for you. If, however, you appreciate a comfortable, welcoming house with plenty of character, you'll feel right at home. The pub within the house was a real highlight and became the heart of our stay, where we spent many happy hours together creating family memories. The house had everything we needed and was cosy and comfortable throughout. The bathrooms are showing their age and could benefit from some updating, but that didn't detract from our enjoyment. One of the unexpected highlights was the horse and two ponies in the field nearby, which would run over to greet us whenever we pulled up outside the house. They were a lovely addition to our stay and added to the property's unique charm. Overall, we had a fantastic stay and thoroughly enjoyed our time together as a family. We left with lots of happy memories.
We booked this accommodation mainly because it had 4 bathrooms.
Only one shower worked properly. Ours was freezing. One went from too hot to too cold and had no in-between and the other had a hole which you had to plug so that the water came out of the shower head. There were steps with no bannister that were tricky for older members of the party. Also unless we opened all the windows (and the ground floor ones were locked) there was a nasty smell like something had died. Having said all that, the house was quirky,the setting was so peaceful and the patio was a lovely place to sit in the morning. There was plenty of room and the kitchen had everything we needed. A bit more care and attention and more help with the shower problems it could be really lovely.
Ideal property for large family groups.
The garden was amazing, our weather was excellent when we were there so we spent most of our time outdoors. The whole family were very happy with their accommodation. Plenty of places to visit nearby and the quarry next door was fascinating to walk round and explore.
