Why Caernarfon?

Caernarfon is a royal town dominated by its magnificent medieval castle - a World Heritage Site and one of the most famous castles in the UK. Caernarfon Castle was built by Edward I and was the mightiest of his ‘Iron Ring’ of fortresses in Wales.

The Welsh Highland Railway, starting in Caernarfon, takes you on a 25-mile journey through Snowdonia National Park. Stop off at villages including Beddgelert, Porthmadog and Portmeirion amongst others on the way.
